The CRI VIVE PRO EYE Kit has been upgraded to the newer PIMAX Crystal Headset. If still wanted, we can also provide the VIVE Pro 2 instead of the PIMAX but please consider the specifications below. This kit and headset are both external and inside-out. This means that this kit permits connecting to the included base stations or operating stand-alone. The resolution is also twice as high with the PIMAX operating at 8K.

⚖️ Analysis

Visual Fidelity: The Pimax Crystal delivers dramatically sharper visuals with its ultra-high resolution and 35 PPD, compared to the VIVE Pro Eye’s ~13 PPD.

Eye Tracking: Both support integrated eye tracking at 120 Hz, but the Pro Eye offers proven accuracy (0.5°–1.1°) with foveated rendering support, while Crystal leverages eye tracking more for IPD adjustment and FOV optimization.

Tracking Approach:

  • Pro Eye relies on external SteamVR Lighthouse base stations for robust tracking, ideal for precise room-scale use.
  • Crystal offers speaker-based inside-out tracking, simplifying setup, with optional external tracking for enthusiasts.

Portability & Power: Crystal can operate standalone or tethered, powered by an XR2 chipset and headstrap batteries—Pro Eye is PC-only, though wireless via third-party adapter is supported.

Comfort and Ergonomics: Both are well-balanced (~800 g), with adjustable fit and IPD controls. Crystal may feel heavier with battery, but offers good balance 😉
