What each destruction tier means
CD Rom Inc follows the NSA/CSS Tier Level framework — a progressive scale of data sanitization from physical destruction through full degaussing.
Tier Level 3
Physical Destruction
The HDD is physically destroyed — shredded, crushed, or ground — rendering data unreadable via any conventional means. Meets NIST 800-88 and all federal requirements.
Tier Level 4
Degauss or Secure Erase
Electromagnetic degaussing eliminating all magnetic fields, or software-based secure erase for drive redeployment. NSA/CSS EPL-listed degaussers used.
Tier Level 5
Degauss + Physical
The highest standard — combines Tier 5 Degauss with Tier 3 Physical Destruction. Meets NSA/CSS EPL 09-12 criteria for destruction of classified data.
